VRBS is an ultralight system for creating highly improvisational role-playing games that reward creative, heroic action. It is genre-agnostic and is published as a free system reference document. So far, it's been used to create a game of feline secret agents; a game about love, loss, and the spirit world; and a game about zombie-infested Cleveland.

About VRBS

  • VRBS has a universal conflict resolution mechanic that requires a single six-sided die and is easy enough for a six-year old to master.
  • In VRBS, characters are defined by what they do, not abstract statistics. Characters can attempt anything that a creative hero would be able to reasonably accomplish and they either succeed or grow in the process.
  • VRBS supports zero-prep, GM-less play for solo and team games. Scenarios are generated at play time and the players collaboratively interpret prompts to drive the story forward.
  • VRBS is best suited to a short, episodic style of play that encourages creativity in both young and old.

Jam Rules

  • This jam is for TTRPGs made with the VRBS SRD. You can use this opportunity to create an entirely new game or finish an existing game.
  • You can price your games any way you'd like!
  • Leave this world in better shape than it was when you found it. Don't be a dick. Racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynist, ableist, or fascist behavior won't be tolerated.
