The art style alone is a real selling point, but this game is also really fun to play and really polished. It already feels like a full experience! I also just love the idea of a game that feels like you're in Dungeon Meshi. And you excuted it so well too!
This was so polished! Lovely, crisp character busts, cute art style, and an excellent soundtrack. Having the little vocal barks when the characters were talking was a very nice touch too (The Scottish accents notwithstanding!!). This is one I'd definitely love to play more of - great job! My only complaint would be about selecting items at cooking stations - it was a bit of friction that didn't feel like it was part of the intended difficulty - items being in different places on the list, having very similar names and only a few colours to differentiate them lead to a lot of frustrated mis-clicks on a tight schedule!
This was an absolutely wonderful experience! I enjoyed the gameplay, it was simple yet fun. The artstyle is really cute and fit the theme of the game very well. The characters are interesting, funny, and creative.
I used to play Diner Dash and this gave me similar vibes with some extra spice to it. I can definitely see myself coming back to this to try for a new highscore and I'd love to see more of something like this, or even the inclusion of an endless mode.
Fantastic work! Bravo!
Heya! I had loads of fun with this game!
The story is relatively simple, but pretty charming thanks to the three main characters. Their personality really made the dialogues and the story pretty fluent. (And the drawings are super cute - Matcha is super expressive)
The gameplay has a pretty unique twist, since you need to gather the ingredients... from the source. Unfortunately I feel like the dungeon part could've been fletched a little more since it's always the same room, but it's still impressive given the single month of work.
While for the cooking gameplay, it was my favorite part. Despite looking simple, having to manage different variants of the ingredients to keep track of and the limited amount of ovens and slashers, made it pretty fun to manage. I just don't see the point in taking the clients order, since it's the same every time (and you can just do it right before delivering the dish)
This is definitely one of the most polished games of the jam, and it fits the theme pretty well! And despite being relatively simple, I found myself addicted to it.
Also, I streamed the game to return the favor C: here's the vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2441782232
thank you for the review and stream! i enjoyed watching your playthrough and hearing your comments definitely made me happy + gave me a lot to think about on how to improve my game!
a lot of what you mentioned were definitely originally planned in the game (bigger dungeon and varying orders) but i decided to ultimately cut them for the jam to keep things feasible within the month and prevent feature creep. if i ever decide to turn this into a full blown game i do have ideas on how to iterate upon them.
This was fun and engaging. Particularly when trying to go above quota, there was the real kitchen stress, running between stations and trying to remember the recipes. The presentation is nice and the little sound clips fun. Good job!
Hey! Thomas here: programmer, writer, and game designer.
This is an incredible job, there’s not much to criticize. The art style is really strong, the core loop is solid, the feedback is great, and the rush moments are genuinely fun. Even the difficulty is well balanced. I assume you’re planning to continue development beyond this demo, and honestly, the level of polish already here is insane. Really impressive work, good job!!
Now, just a few personal observations from my experience playing:
It felt a bit strange when some enemies (like the chicken one) hit me while moving near me, but not actually in my direction. I got hit several times without understanding how or why. A bit more visual clarity on their attack behavior would go a long way.
As for the ingredients, the color design is clever, and I liked how the visual state of each item communicated information. It’s smart that the colors aren’t tied to how you should cook the ingredient, since that ties into the core conflict. However, I found myself misclicking quite often, not because of the mechanic itself, but because the names were really similar and the icons weren’t always distinct enough. Personally, I would have adjusted the naming slightly to help distinguish each ingredient more clearly.
Also, for the final stage of the game, you might consider removing the ingredient names altogether and just using clear icons. That would shift the difficulty away from recognizing the right label, and instead toward memorizing the recipes and cook the right thing in the right moment, which feels more in line with the escalating chaos of the game.
That said, this is a fantastic project. Can’t wait to see how it evolves!
thank you for the review! i am glad you enjoyed it! and you gave a lot of very good points i should consider when i go back to this game! you've given me some good ways to address these problems too! i am very grateful for that!
im honestly on the fence if im going to continue this game or start working on a new project though. but this game is definitely something i want to revisit in the future!
Oh, this was SUPER fun! Immaculate vibes. The art and music are so cute and cohesive, and Day 5 was just the perfect amount of frantic rush. The story was fun, too -- simple, but it was a nice throughline to have to push through the 5 days. Excellent job!
Dungeon Meshi if they played Overcooked.
This is an incredibly well made game, the polish is off the charts! You combined a really fun game loop with an engaging story that made me really eager to get to that final day. (by the way, Day 5 had me SWEATING with how frantic it was, what a satisfying final challenge)
Your characters and art design INSTANTLY hooked me, and I really found myself caring for Matcha and Sangria by the end. I would love to see another installment with Matcha managing the new hires. Amazing work!
thank you for the review! happy to hear you enjoyed the little story i made for my game ^u^! honestly i was worried that day 5 would be too hard but im glad people aren't struggling too much on it!
I was surprised at how polished the game looked! The art is really clean, and in general, things were responsive and worked well. I will say, the voice acting was a bit rough. I also think that the game could have used a few more recipes, and maybe have people order different things.
Really impressive given the time frame though!
thank you for the review! i definitely had more ideas for variety in the game yeah, but i definitely decided in the end to keep it simple to prevent feature creep. if i ever decide to come back to this project i'd love to explore more ways to keep the game fresh!
Just started playing this and I LOVE the aesthetic, gameplay loop and creativity here! Awesome job!
This game has a strong visual appeal and a well made gameplay loop. Basically a cooking game with foraging elements. The difficulty spike is gradual and not too overwhelming (except the last day since its storywise intentional).
Personally, this game can go very far. I truly enjoyed this game's aesthetics and characters. Even the mouse Cola who helped a lot with the upgrades.
